| Shocking slaughter methods
Red and Arctic foxes, raccoon dogs, mink and Rex rabbits are just some of the animals cruelly reared and slaughtered for their fur on Chinese fur farms.
Inadequate housing, rough handling and brutal slaughter methods are endured by millions of fur bearing animals; all for the sake of fashion. Many animals remained alive and fully conscious while they were being skinned, and remained so for up to 10 minutes afterwards!
China is the world’s largest exporter of fur clothing and the biggest fur trade production and processing base in the world. Chinese fur is sold throughout the EU, including the UK, and is used in a range of clothing, trimmings and accessories. Industry figures show that annual sales of full fur and fur trimmed products in the EU are worth around US$4.525 million.
Britain banned fur farming on humane grounds yet members of the British Fur Trade Association turn over £500 million a year as the world’s largest buyers of pelts. As fur may move through several countries before ending up in the shops, the final product label may simply read, ‘Made in Italy’ or ‘Made in France’ disguising the garment’s inhumane source.
